I spent last weekend in the company of Aiden and Alice’s luxurious, spunky and zany wedding at the Banyan Tree, Bintan. I normally take a few weeks to deliver selected highlights to my wedding couples so that they can share their wedding day quickly with family and friends. But in this case I feel compelled to blog about it days after their wedding because the dreamy ambience and their original touches easily makes this my Wedding of 2009!
Alice planned her dream tropical island wedding via long distance from London, including booking yours truly as her wedding photographer. She and Aiden had initially planned an Amazing Race Asia start to their wedding weekend; flying from London to Kuala Lumpur to say hello to her parents, taking the first coach down to Singapore and then a ferry across to Bintan – all within days. Thankfully they decided to make Singapore their new home before the wedding. So read on to see what happens when a bunch of thirty-something professionals take over a beach resort for the night.

And the look on Aiden’s face? Priceless.

The magnificient Tree Tops pool was the solemnisation venue. It’s cleverly hoisted underwater to give the impression of a floating platform.

Celebratory drinks started with pink rosé Champagne.

Their best friends flew in from London, Sydney and Hong Kong.

Then the jubilant couple sneaked away for a private couple shoot at the beach.

The Chinese tea ceremony setup at the Champagne Bar.

The immaculate table setting. Each guest had 4 glasses: one for Champagne, another for red wine, one for white wine and lastly water.

Instead of conventional place cards with names, Aiden & Alice dug through their photo collection to produce Polaroid-like prints in black & white. You could say they were an instant hit.

Alice’s father contributed the calligraphy for four auspicious characters for each table.

Alice is a bride with a big, hearty laugh!

Alice & Aiden promptly ate their cake, stripped off their clothes to reveal swimwear underneath and started the pool party with a splash.

“One more lychee martini, please.”

The bare-chested groom and his very merry men had their customary wedding cigars.

Their owners are all in the pool.

Congratulations Aiden & Alice! Thank you for giving us the creative licence to work unhindered at your wedding. And if your wedding is anything to go by, may you enjoy each and every day together full of laughter — and drink!
